Solokhumbo 2024

MyIdol Foundation Project Solokhumbo 2024

In the current project in the summer of 2024, it’s about a dormitory for female students at a school in the Solokhumbu area of Nepal. The girls who live here come from remote villages, between 5 and 8 hours’ walking distance away. Without the dormitory, the girls would not be able to attend school.

The old dormitory was in very poor condition and no longer habitable. Mold had eaten through the entire beams under the floors and ceiling. Parts of the roof structure collapsed as a result, making the dormitory uninhabitable.

The MyIdol Foundation immediately stepped in after the problem became known and took over the full financing of 2,750,000 Nepalese rupees (18,476 EUR) so that the renovation could begin right away.

We financed the milestones, with much of the work being done by the residents themselves. As you can see in the pictures, the girls, wearing sandals, are moving the stones aside and helping out with all sorts of tasks.

The entire supervision was taken over by Karma Sherpa, who also ensured that the financial resources were used carefully and efficiently. As always, 100% of the donations go directly to our projects. We have no administration, no employees, and no hidden costs in our foundation, as all participants work on a voluntary basis.

In the pictures, you can see the initial cleanup work carried out by the girls who live in the dormitory themselves. It is impressive how these young women, wearing sandals, are hauling heavy stones. They received support from the local community.

The demolition work shows just how poor the condition of the dormitory was and that it was indeed uninhabitable. The local community actively contributed to save money and keep costs low. Many helpers received only meals for their efforts, without any further compensation. Only the specialists who were needed were paid a wage.

The construction work continued throughout the entire summer and into the fall of2024. A significant challenge was obtaining the building materials and transporting them to the remote village.

Karma Sherpa oversaw all the construction work and ensured that the donatedfunds were carefully allocated and used efficiently.

There was even space for a small football field

The new dormitory, with 3 rooms and accommodation for 28 girls, is soon to be completed.

The school can begin, but the work is not yet fully completed. Electrical wiring for lighting, outlets, and the kitchen is still being installed, and the sanitary facilities are being expanded.

We are happy to contribute our assistance for such news. This is why we will continue to strive and look forward to any support we can receive.

The brochure should include a QR code linking to the website: www.myidol.com, as well as the donation details, including bank information and QR codes for the wallets.
